How much should you tip?
Tipping norms vary by country. In the United States, 15–20% is standard for table service; 18% is a safe default. In much of Europe and Latin America, service is often included and a smaller 5–10% is a courtesy. This calculator lets you set any percentage, so it works wherever you are — and the split feature settles the "who owes what" question instantly for group meals.
Splitting fairly
The simplest fair split divides the total (bill + tip) equally. For uneven orders, some groups tip proportionally to each person's share — but an equal split is faster and usually close enough among friends. This tool does the equal split; for itemized bills, add each person's subtotal separately and apply the same tip percentage.
Quick tip math
To estimate in your head: 10% is the bill with the decimal moved one place; 20% is double that; 15% is 10% plus half of it. For a $46 bill: 10% = $4.60, so 20% ≈ $9.20 and 15% ≈ $6.90.
