Why word counts matter
Most platforms have limits or sweet spots: X (Twitter) caps posts at 280 characters, Instagram bios at 150, Google cuts titles around 60 characters and descriptions at 155, college essays and job applications set word limits, and SEO articles tend to perform well between 800 and 2,000 words. This counter gives every number at once, live, so you can write against a target instead of checking afterwards.
How each metric is counted
Words are sequences of letters or numbers separated by spaces or punctuation. Characters count everything including spaces (the number platforms enforce), with a separate count excluding them. Sentences split on final punctuation (. ! ?), and paragraphs on blank lines. Reading time uses the common average of 200 words per minute β presenters often use 130 wpm for speech, so a 5-minute talk is roughly 650 spoken words.
Privacy note
