Why formats matter
Not every site or app accepts every image format. WebP is smaller and modern but occasionally rejected by older upload forms or design software. PNG supports transparency (logos, icons, stickers) but produces much larger files for photos. JPG is universally accepted and compact for photos, but has no transparency and adds slight compression artifacts. Converting fixes format-mismatch errors without needing an image editor.
What happens to transparency
PNG and WebP can have transparent pixels; JPG cannot. Converting a transparent PNG or WebP to JPG fills the transparent areas with white — this tool warns you before that happens, so you can pick PNG or WebP instead if you need to keep transparency.
Quality when converting
Converting to JPG or WebP uses a high default quality, so a single conversion looks essentially identical to the original. If you specifically want a smaller file size and are willing to trade some quality for it, use the image compressor instead, which lets you adjust the quality level.

What happens to a transparent background?
If you convert to JPG, transparent areas turn white, since JPG does not support transparency. Convert to PNG or WebP to keep it.
Does converting lose quality?
Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG or WebP uses a high quality setting by default, so the difference is generally not visible.
